The Loons are Back

I heard them last night in full force for the first time, and what a marvelous sound it is! It starts around dusk when they start calling out for each other in that long mournful whooooooooooing. At times, the song rises in a couple of shriller notes, almost like those a gull would make. Then, when they take off from the water and pass overhead, they produce a sort of yodeling call, probably to tell the others that they're leaving for a bit. It's been just warm enough at night so that I can leave a window open now, too, which allows me to hear them much more clearly.I love sitting out in my yard and listening to the loons! Such a cool sound they make.I have a pond nearby. My bird friends bring me much joy. Continue to enjoy your bird friends :).
He loons don't return until the water temperature has increased. And we are due for some warmer weather over the weekend.oh how wonderful that they are back, summer on its way then.
Of course, I'll set myself up for it going as badly as it possibly can. It's sort of like emotional insurance: if it does go badly, I'll be somewhat prepared for it. But if goes well, then at least I won't get any unpleasant OR painful surprises!so i decided to have fun around. and probably i got fun.
I'll be SO glad when it's over and I can come home and sip on chocolate milk for the rest of the day.
